Top Massage Chairs Under $1000 Reviews
Most of the top massage chairs under $1000 offer the same type of massage techniques throughout the chair. The key features to look for are shiatsu rollers throughout the chair for deep-kneading action, heat therapy, optional vibration, and of course, air compression. Each chair is lined with airbags to compress different parts of the body. Additionally, all of the chairs in my Top 5 offer the zero-gravity position for ultimate relaxation during your massage sessions.
One premium feature that’s hard to find in a chair in this price range is body scanning. The reason I chose the BM-EC06C chair is that it offers body scanning for under $1000. Body scanning detects the size of your body to custom tailor each massage for different user heights. Without body scanning, the chair is somewhat one-size-fits-all, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as you’ll soon find out in the reviews below.
In each review, I highlight the key features that each chair in my Top 5 offers along with the essential pros & cons reported by current owners. By the end of the reviews, you’ll be well on your way to ordering your new massage chair. Let’s get started with my #1 pick.
BestMassage BM-EC06C
Of the chairs in my Top 5, the BestMassage BM-EC06C model is the most feature-rich and premium. As mentioned above, the BM-EC06C features body scanning technology, which is a standard feature in the top massage chairs that cost $2000 or more. The built-in sensors measure the length of the spine and account for the user’s weight to optimize the massage settings.
You have complete freedom to adjust the angle of the chair and enter the coveted zero gravity position with the touch of a button. Plus, there are settings to adjust chair width, massage speed, and massage intensity. The full-body massage experience targets your back, shoulders, neck, waist, legs, and feet with a wide range of massage techniques including optional heat.
In total, there are 21 airbags strategically placed throughout the chair to apply air compression massage throughout the body. Heat & air compression massage is excellent for improving blood circulation and enhancing the relaxing effects of each massage in the chair.
There are 7 massage modes to choose from with kneading, tapping, stretching, shiatsu, combo, air pressure, and heating massage techniques. The chair also comes with 9 preset settings created by the experts to help save you time. All in all, the BM-EC06C could very well be the best massage chair for the money currently on the market.
- Very easy to assemble, comes in one piece except for the arms and control panel
- The materials and overall quality of the chair are comparable to chairs that cost double or triple the price
- Recommended by users for alleviating lower back pain
- The many air compression airbags provide a thorough massage experience
- Ample padding throughout the chair
- Excellent customer service marks
- The transportation wheels are great for moving the chair and positioning it upon arrival
- The massage experience is incredibly relaxing
- The directions could be better (be sure to flip open the control panel to control the heat)
- No foot rollers
- A handful of broken part reports
- It may not be the best choice for tall users with long legs
- Shorter warranty period than OOTORI offers
Tinycooper Massage Chair
The Tinycooper aka the OOTORI N500 is another top-rated and deluxe massage chair for under 1000 bucks. Here are two key considerations to make when choosing between the OOTORI N500 and BestMassage BM-EC06C models. The first consideration is the BM-EC06C features body scanning technology, and the N500 does not. The second consideration is the N500 features foot rollers, and the BM-EC06C does not. At the time of this writing, the Tinycooper costs a good bit less than the BM-EC06C as well.
The N500 offers a total of 32 internal airbags, which is more than the 21 offered in the BM-EC06C. The 32 airbags are located throughout the chair to mainly target the shoulders, arms, seat area, and legs with air compression therapy. The chair features a total of 8 back rollers plus foot rollers, which I think is a nice touch at this price point. You might also prefer the sleeker appearance of the N500 over the more classic appearance of the BM-EC06C.
The feature I really like about this chair is the 3 levels of zero gravity. For this reason, I rated this chair as the best zero gravity massage chair under $1000. The adjustable settings allow you to choose between 3 intensity levels for airbag strength control and 3 speeds to find your sweet spot.
Two limits to be aware of with this chair are the lower max recommended user height of 6′ and max recommended user weight of 287 lbs. Compared to other chairs in my Top 5, these numbers are lower. Finally, I want to highlight the long 3-year warranty period that comes standard with OOTORI massage chairs.
- Foot rollers for a deeper foot massage than what the BestMassage BM-EC06C offers
- The chair delivers a strong massage that won’t leave something to be desired
- A heating element in the lower back region is quite relaxing
- Well worth the money
- The sensation of the air compression pulling the body toward the shiatsu rollers is heavenly
- Recommended for relieving neck and back pain
- The different massage intensities ensure that everyone will enjoy their massage
- Very easy to install upon arrival
- The zero gravity angles are great for entering the ultimate state of relaxation
- The massage is too hard for some users
- Tall and broad-shouldered individuals may experience discomfort
- Maximum 15-minute massage intervals
- A couple of missing pieces reports
Real Relax Favor-03
The newly updated Favor-03 is already one of the top contenders for best massage chair for the money. Of all the chairs in this guide, I like the inviting appearance of the Favor-03 the most. The Favor-03 is essentially air compression massage heaven with its 50 internal airbags. That’s more than double the number of airbags offered in the BM-EC06C.
The key here is to consider how much you enjoy air compression massage therapy because if you do, this is the chair in my Top 5 for you. Another feature to be mindful of is the foot rollers featured in the Favor-03. At the time of this writing, the BM-EC06C and Favor-03 cost about the same price, yet the Favor-03 features more airbags, and it has foot rollers. The main feature that it’s missing is body scanning.
Like the OOTORI N500, the Favor-03 features a total of 3 zero gravity positions with the ultra-relaxing “Deep Zero Gravity” position where your feet move above heart height. The feature that I love to see is the integrated Bluetooth speakers. Once you connect to the chair via Bluetooth, you have the option to push your favorite relaxing tunes through it. Just imagine the state of bliss you’ll enter with Deep Zero Gravity, your favorite music, and the massage working your body at full steam.
One feature I want to highlight is the high max weight limit of 400 lbs with this chair. That’s the highest in this guide. The max user height limit is 6.1′, which is a hair higher than the N500. If the max massage interval length of the N500 turned you off, you’ll be happy to know that the Favor-03 offers up to a 30-minute massage per session. Overall, I’m in love with the functionality of this chair and the aesthetic appeal in this price range.
- Delivers an excellent morning massage that gets the juices flowing for the day
- The massage is comparable to chairs that cost thousands more
- Good customer service marks (manufacturer stands behind the warranty)
- Deep zero gravity mode is just amazing
- Approved by tall users over 6’2″
- Does an excellent job of relaxing tired and sore muscles after a hard workout
- It’s built like a tank to stand the test of time
- The combination of the airbags and foot rollers is incredible after a long day of standing
- Silent operation and the chair materials are very comfortable
- The pressure on the lower back might be too intense (may require placing a towel or thin pillow)
- It could have more preset auto programs
- Years 2 and 3 in the warranty period only cover the shipping cost of replacement parts
- No way to lock the leg extender in the extended position
OOTORI Q7 Zero Gravity Massage Chair
The OOTORI Q7 Zero Gravity Massage Chair is the second and final OOTORI model in my Top 5. At the time of this writing, the Q7 model does cost more than the N500. What really sets this chair apart from the N500 is the cocoon-like environment. I really like the idea of the sides coming up higher to create my own private space free of disturbances. Similar to the two chairs above it, the Q7 offers 3 levels of Zero Gravity with a max angle that lifts the feet above both head and heart height.
In total, the Q7 features 34 internal airbags and 8 massage rollers with foot rollers. Like the Tinycooper, this massage chair offers a wide range of massage techniques including kneading, knocking, tapping, shiatsu, air pressure, and heating. There are also 5 auto programs to get your massage started with the click of a button. The range of massage techniques and preset programs that come standard with the OOTORI chairs in this guide are two features that really set them apart from the others.
One design element I like a lot is the ergonomic armrest linkage system with embedded arm clips. That unique feature alone is quite nice and a key selling point for this model. The last highlight I want to mention is the 3D shiatsu massage in the calf & foot area. If you value foot massage above other parts of the body, this chair delivers the best foot massage of the models in my Top 5.
- The zero gravity massage positions deliver on their promise
- Recommended by users suffering from back pain
- Great customer service marks
- The 3 levels of air compression are perfect for varying the strength of each massage
- Reaches deep into the muscles for an authentic shiatsu massage experience
- The foot & calf massage is magical
- The preset programs are the ultimate convenience
- High-quality, super-soft materials
- An excellent entry-level massage chair
- The max height limit of 6’3″ is misleading (according to owners, 5’10” is about the max)
- Instructions could be clearer
- Short users may not make proper contact with the neck massager depending on their height
- The arm compression on the high setting may cause discomfort
SmartMassageChairs Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair
The final chair in my Top 5 by SmartMassageChairs is the most affordable massage chair of the five models in this guide. For the price, this is a feature-rich chair and one of two chairs in this guide with Bluetooth audio. Unlike the other models above it, this model offers a single zero gravity position that does manage to move the feet higher than the heart. What I really like is the designated “Zero Gravity” button that allows you to quickly enter zero gravity mode before your massage starts.
The chair itself features the most important massage features, including a total of 8 back rollers, foot rollers, internal airbags throughout the chair, optional lower back heating, and even an extendable footrest. One feature I really like to see at this price point is the 6 preset programs with the option to adjust the speed and strength of your massage. If you can live without body scanning, it’s borderline impossible to beat the price of this chair for what you get in return.
These are the pros and cons I found reported by users in the SmartMassageChairs reviews:
- Excellent value for the money
- Easy installation
- Awesome for relaxing the body after a long, hard day
- The chair itself is very comfortable to sit in for long periods
- Zero Gravity is the real deal
- The heat in the lower back region delivers
- Bluetooth audio is a nice feature for playing your favorite music during your massage
- Somewhat more complicated to put together than the other 4 chairs in this guide (arrives in 3 boxes)
- Users 6′ or taller may need to adjust their position to get a proper shoulder massage
- Takes a few minutes to heat up
Bottom Line
Now you know the best massage chairs for under $1000 currently available. All of these chairs offer features that are usually found in chairs that cost $1000s more. While it is important to temper your expectations compared to buying the most premium massager chairs on the market, it’s also important to consider that these five chairs deliver excellent value for the money. They also all feature the prized zero gravity position.
Be sure to check the specs before you buy one to match your height and weight to the limits for each model. It’s also a good idea to read back through my reviews above because I already checked the limits against what current users are saying. What I found is that sometimes the max height limit in the product description is inaccurate. In the pros & cons sections above, I made sure to note any discrepancies that I found.
Lastly, consider which features you value the most such as body scanning, foot rollers, and Bluetooth audio since not every model in my Top 5 offers all of these features. Now, it’s time for you to enter massage chair utopia!
